39. Taxus Baccata Semperaurea

39. Taxus Baccata Semperaurea (Taxus baccata Semperaurea)

21.3.10 This is a very bright golden yew. It has lovely drooping branches and I am pruning it as a narrow hedge, to fill the space available. It is a male plant so has no berries.

I'm wary of Yew because I've heard all except the berries is poisonous to dogs...

I was not aware of that I knew their berries were toxic but having had a look on the internet it seems Rhodos and Azaleas are as bad as is Foxgloves. I suppose it is all a question of whether you can keep the poison and the potential victim apart until they can be educated about the dangers. We have laburnums in the garden and I was advised to cut them down because of the children but we had no problems. Everywhere there are risks and we need to be aware so we can take care so thank you for bringing this to our attention.

At least no berries will tempt less to try eating it. It is a lovely bronze.

I put up a few more of my thistle, not clearer but better flower shots. ;-)
