There's lots going on there Pauline, and it must be so satisfying to grow your own veg. I look forward to seeing more, including results.

thank you Seaburngirl. Yes I did. At times I had a police helicopter flying over my head they must have wondered what i was doing!!! i was hoping they would come and help me dig it all up. Then I thought I'd found a world war bomb- turned out to be the sewer it runs the whole length of my garden, talk about scared. The man from the council laughed his head off - I didn't see the funny side

its a long garden to, lots of work ahead, :o)

Yes it is long, I think of it as my corridor! Oh how I wished I had a square garden. Im not sure if my garden works??? Keep thinking I should move the beds to maximise the space but a bit frightened of getting it wrong. Plus I don't think my poor old back can take any more digging. Terrified of what I might find this time around ha ha Treasure would be nice!!

if your not bothered about grass or all of it then i would make some gravel paths, would make such a differance , a patio would be good to, depends on your pocket and if you can get help doing it, sit down and draw a rough guide of what you want in the garden then do one thing at a time, starting from the house and down the garden slowely :o) it will come

I once had a long garden like yours Pauline, split it up into sections with little connecting paths it made it more attractive and interesting, Good Luck!

PP I wonder if you have a photo of your old garden. It would be lovely to see what it looked like. I find it quite hard to imagine how it would look like. So I end up changing things and then decide I don't like it, all that hard work for nothing

pauline if you look at growpedia page at bottom of this page, go to latter R, then look at raised veg plots, there are lots of garden ideas there which would help you im sure, i think you have to seperate the veg area from your grass, that way your grass doesnt get ruined, and cant put gravel paths inbetween raised beds, keeps thing tidy and mud free, just a though :o))

That's given me ideas PP. Sandra I wanted to put my 4 beds together nearer the back fence as that's where we get the most sun,. Since our neighbour put up a 6ft fence!! But the kids perfere to sun bath!!. If I move the beds closer to the hse they will only get a little sun. I will have a look under R thanks

at least if they are all together you can then have others area ie. patio seating area , grass area if wanted, but as PP said lots of gravel paths as with veg growers out in all weather and grass gets ruined, get the kids helping they will enjoy creating a new garden for you all to enjoy pauline :o))

hmmm, i too will click on the letter "R" below for the same reason.... fantastic to pick up tips from the regulars! great, it sounds you are aiming for and are well on the way to the same kind of garden we are! Only just planted some potatoes in patio planter, but are looking to grow more veg in raised beds... Have you heard of square foot gardening? That sounds quite a good way to grow a varied amount of produce..... Its basically a 4ftx4ft raised bed, sectioned off into squares. Large plant planted towards the back. I'm only looking into it myself, but it sounds interesting....
