Lovely palm Andy. We have a fine specimen growing in the Palm House at Kew.

Dottydaisy2:

Yes, I love these palms too. : > )

Unfortunately, this palm is not very widely grown in San Diego. It is extremely sensitive to cool weather and despises cold weather by dying. It is widely grown in truly tropical climates. We are still pretty lucky to have some nice specimen in San Diego's mild subtropical climate.

Those aren't even babied and look fine. In a garden by July I bet they are nice and deep green. Great small palms for any yard of z10b and warm.

They used to be taken care of and were very green and there were more. Now, the they don't look as good. I have seen several around San Diego in private gardens. They tend to looks much better. They're sold at Lowe's for $149.00 for a 15 gallon plant. They're 5' palms, not too badly priced.

I'm sure now I have bottle palms. Still, three to a pot is a little different.
We haven't had a night below 40f Andy. I think this is the deepest into December in years without one 39f or less. The long range is for all 40f+.

I think tonight you'll get below 40 degrees, it was 40 degrees at 10:00 p.m. It's going to be pretty cold here this weekend. We've only had a few mornings in the last could of weeks of upper 40's, it's mostly been in the low-to-mid 50's.

Weather Underground is calling for some really cold temps for near your area. Usually W.U. uses Santee or someplace called Gillespie for long range calls. So not sure how lower and colder than they are than your hilly "Mesa".
Still,37f is lowest called here and if that's the worst- I will take it! 35f has been best winter since I've been into gardening. Maybe three winters in the last 20 were like that. This might top it.
I moved my Cattleyas hybrids off the porch and into more sun on the side of my house in November. I see one has buds on it.
Not exactly the 80f high and 74 low my inlaws are getting in Miami ( while they are here) and the non winter they have.

It was 43 degrees this morning for the low here (where I live). It feels so, so cold! This is since the the lows have been mostly in the 50's for most of December. The days have been in the mid-60's the last couple of days. It's mostly been in the 70's and low 80's! (for most of Dec) We're so spoiled here in San Diego! LOL!!

Coldest parts of the bay area are going to have a hard freeze and also in the valley. Still going for 37f as a low in Hayward. I just want no frost..it can be 37,36,35,34...33..just without killing frost.
What can I say ? My whole life is growing in pots or in ground-lol. Oh,boy.

30 Dec, 2018

I see soucal saw 34f and close to the coast. 42f by South Bart-a well known subtropical belt.
Tuesday is the coldest morning of them all, they say.

It was very cold in inland areas of San Diego County for three or four days last week, some upper 20's in Poway and Valley Center and a few other inland cities. Luckily, the lows here were around 40, 41 degrees for a few days. It's a lot warmer this weekend with lows in the low 50's with rain. We had a lot of rain last night. We're actually having a rainy season this year. Yay! No watering every day. :>))

We had Andy, our warmest 10b winter...ever. Hayward had a pair of 37f as lowest lows. My banana leafs are fine. My potted Pseudobombax eliptica is still in leaf. Most years its bare and dormant by now. Crotons are in full leaf and look like they will stay that way.
Long range lows are supposed to be around 50f..thats far past the 42f average.
This is new territory.
