Perennial for a gritty soil in full sun. The leaves appear in the autumn with the flowers, which only last a few days, in early spring

DD - I have it growing in a west-facing border of clay with plenty of grit incorporated. It's been growing there quite happily for five years now

Yes, this plant is seven years old now (although it hasn't flowered every year). Unaffected by the last two winters

No gritty soil, so unfortunately not for me.....
