what a shame

So sorry to see this Lori........

I hope that this doesn't mean that you will experience a similar thing in the UK... I had hope early in the day that it would turn to rain and the temps would quicklly rebound...no such luck I'm sorry to say... it's been 12 hours and it's still snowing! not much accumulating but if the temp dips over night ...I shudder to think what it may look like tomorrow morning. Do you suppose that the volcanic dust has circled the globe and has seeded the clouds over us? LOL..should check the snow to see if it's gritty~ LOL.

Oh Poor You Lori.........

28 Apr, 2010

Oh Lori after all your lovely weather ,your plants will now be totaly confused .....

28 Apr, 2010

they say "the sun will come out tomorrow..." and so it did.... by afternoon it was still quite cool...but the clouds had moved aside and the inch or so of snow had melted. to further befuddle both gardener and plants...it's supposed to be in the 70's by the weekend!! I give up.

Lori:

Wow! When did it snow there? Was it just a few days ago?

I know the weather has been very strange this year because of El NiƱo. Last week there was 12 inches/ 31 cm of snow on Mt. Laguna (at 6,000 feet/ 1830 meters elevation - San Diego County Mountains) the meteorologist couldn't remember the last time it snowed this late in the year up there. Our temps have been below normal with 4 times the normal rainfall for the month of April. It's crazy! : > /

Please send some of your rain over here Delonix! My garden is SO dry and all my water butts are empty!

Everyone is saying the same thing... Gt in Alaska...spring is very early up there and it's dry...Mikec told me there was a foot of snow in Burlingont, Vt.(just south of us) Snow fell here for a solid 15 hours...most of it melted off as it fell but in the last few hours overnight we got about an inch accumulation and it melted off by noon. We've been hit by a double whammy...the volcano and El Nino... plus major earthquakes around the pacific rim......you (D1) getting more rain than usual...others (Gt and Sid) getting much less...Temperature vairiations that go from one extreme to the other in a matter of hours...~ Makes you wish for a seatbelt to fasten...it's a bumpy ride!

I think your need is greater Lori! ;-)

Sid:

We've had about 2 inches of rain in April which is 4 times our normal rainfall. We're usually very dry from April through most of December with no rain at all or very little.

Lori:

It has been a very unusual weather year...March was dry and warm and Apr. wetter and cooler than normal. It's been windy for the last 2 days. By this weekend we're suppose to back to our normal warm weather though.

Speaking of earthquakes...we had the 7.2 earthquake on Easter which was centered in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico which affected all of Southern California. It was the strongest earthquake to affect San Diego since 1890's. We lucked out with only light to moderate damage in San Diego County...however, we're still rockin' and a rolling with hundreds of aftershocks more than 4.5 magnitude.

Goodness Delonix you're still getting aftershocks?! :-o Was there much damage in your area?

30 Apr, 2010

Delonix: 4.5 is still a good shake! at present I live very close to a very old fault line and the last slippage was about 20 years ago...experienced a minor quake when I was out in B.C. ...but seeing the damage in Haiti and China...and hearing about the rumblings in Baja and in Alaska...makes a person a little jumpy!

Lori:

I've been through so many large earthquakes when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area...they don't faze me much!

The Mexicali earthquake was larger than the Haiti quake. Luckily though, that area isn't too populated.

I've only ever known 2 'proper' earthquakes in my life and the first one i didn't even notice!! I say 'proper' because I'm sure that i sometimes feel tiny earthquakes, but then they never get mentioned on the news.....
