I've cut away some of the grass here as it's south facing and am hoping to make it a Kitchen Garden effect, with flowers and vegies that enjoy the sun....

Sounds a good idea, Clematisa. What are you planning to grow? I toyed with the idea of planting some potatoes among my shrubs/flowers but, in the end, I just put them in pots again!
