Amaryllis on table 2010-04-29 (Amaryllis Hippeastrum)

My Amaryllis seedlings, which have taken 4 years to reach this, their first flowering season, have come out more or less 50/50 in respect to being deep red or white with red feathering/flushing.

Thank you so much, Michaella. They are very lovely, aren't they?

50/50 is more than I expected. A nice even variety. Well done Balcony. :-)

Thank you everyone for your comments & I'm so pleased you like them! :-)

As there are still a few that haven't flowered yet I'll have to wait a little longer before confirming the 50/50 ratio Pure Red to Red/white. I love them all but the red/white ones more as they are all a little different. One of them has even bigger flowers than the others & they seem to be outliving the others as well.

what fantastic crop!~ it's so sad they don't last longer~

It is sad - more so when you have had to wait 4 years to see the first flower!!!!

Nevertheless, I have one plant whose flowers have lasted longer than any other & today the 2nd stem is opening its first flowers! :-)

What beauties

Glad you like them, Grandmage! :-) They do look lovely, don't they? I now have the last 6 pots on the table, the rest are now planted in the allotment. In fact I took half a dozen down this morning! I have about 50 bulbs in all which I have been growing from my own seed during the past 4 years. This is the first time they have ever flowered.

What an achievement! Gold medal to you !

:-) Thanks for the " Gold Medal"! :-)

I took down the pot with the original 3 bulbs to the allotment this morning & planted it. I now have only 6 more plants to take down & that will be ALL the bulbs planted on the allotment.

The bulbs I've planted up till now look OK & there are no signs of slug or snail damage as yet.

Dont speak too soon, I have noticed my lovely Hosta has been nibbled behind my back !!!!!

25 May, 2010

What was it doing behind your back??? :-D

I have planted a couple more today & I still see no sign of snail damage.

26 May, 2010

I repeat my question What was it (Hosta) doing behind your back in the first place? ;-) LOL!
