Sorry late to this Sandra..yes as Clarice says its a water hyacinth and not hardy.We had a couple which died and never flowered.If you google them you get lots of info !Maybe we need better summers.....

I tried one on our pond a couple of years ago. It looked great whille it was flowering but, as with everyone else, it did not survive the winter.

There water hyachinths and die at end of summer, i tried over wintering them in a bucket of water in greenhouse, but still died on me., they also mutiply quite quick.
