Thanks Annella, it's cold today but at least it's sunny! I like the almost translucent petals on this tulip.

The lighting is lovely. It's really cold here and a lot of cloud + weekend forecast
is yuk, I feel as though I'm getting nowhere in the garden. Everything has had a mad growing surge, I need to take control!!

Do you have to do a lot of pruning of all the shrubs Annella? I've got the hose sprinkling the newly seeded grass patches as the wind is drying everything out fast. It looks lovely from in here, but when I step outside its brrrrrr!!

I try to not over prune so I keep my privacy and the shrubs look a little 'wild' but it all takes time. I've not managed a full circuit of the garden yet this year. I trimmed some Lonicera bushes toperiary style on Sat and that took most of the day

Yes, I think, looking at my garden today, that I really need to consider getting some more evergreen shrubs. I really like the blue ceanothus but they are not fully hardy here and can look really wrecked after a harsh winter. Problem is I don't want to 'bring the garden in' too much either or I will lose any sense of space. I guess I will just have to wait and maybe plant a couple more shrubs.....mmm....will need to think a bit more about it...and look again at your pics!

All my ceonothus made it through the winter, I'm glad cos there would have been some big gaps. Are some of them more hardy than others?

Yes of course, and all the ones I like best are...the least hardy! lol ;)

I think I've got the tuff ones!! I'm going to find my box of plant labels in the garage at the weekend so I can look like I know what I'm talking about ;-))))

lol ;)

just had a look at them in local GC and they all said 'frost hardy but needs protection in cold weather'.

Believe me Karen it's so exposed and north facing here. The back of the house is facing Siberia and it feels like it at the minute! But things do survive, even after last winter. I have nice views but not much protection so lots of my plants have been try it and see :-))
