Walking in Denali Park yesterday (blog to come) I came across this bloom along the path which until now I had only heard of. Very early spring and no foliage, just these big furry blooms. I could barely move past. :-)

Thanks San. These were such an amazing find, I have spent years hoping to catch this in bloom somewhere.

Thank you Lauren. Aren't they? Just doing out in the woods!
Sandra, I went camping last spring and some of the women found it on their walk. But we ran out of time to go on that walk too. I've really been aching to see them since. So glad finally. They thought they were under the inquisition, all the questions I had for them making sure they saw what they saw.......lol!

Wonderful aren't they? Thanks. :-) I was surprised to find them so large and short of stem. Probably a different variety, but definitely in the family.
