they all live in my cactus shed.....it has see through panels on it. in the winter the temperture stayed below freezing in there for ten days......

Most cacti will tolerate sub-freezing temps...as long as it's dry. Wet and cold is lethal though (as you probably already know).

i stop watering them in august......just to make sure they are dry for the winter.

Wow! That's really early...but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.
The Cacti here in San Diego receives most of their rain water during winter...but the soil is so good draining and dry it doesn't effect them. : > )
