Wildfire Beyond the Garden

Wildfire Beyond the Garden

All around us we have large plumes rising up like this one, caught in the late evening. Not blowing into town right now, but when it does, the air is awful. Very early season this year. I hope they stay far away.

What causes these? Like the photo even though it is a threat. o:(

Spectacular! Do you have to wear a mask if it gets bad J?

This is caused by lightning. Since we have soooo much wilderness, they are often left to burn unless people areas are at risk. We have them usually in August so very early, we had very little snow so dry spring. I have a mask in the car in case it blows in and garden with it on too. They ended our air quality laws because we have worse air from natural inversions and smoke than any cars or wood fires. Seems like there are more and bigger every year. 2003 it was like a war zone for three weeks, couldn't see out the door. I'll try to get a good shot of the skyline out in the flats on a clear day, (if we get another....lol). I think the plumes are beautiful though ominous.

Thanks for the very interesting explanation!

Yes, indeed!

:-)

Looking like our recent days of rain may have dampened them. I couldn't see smoke anywhere today and we were clear and hot!

Phew, what a relief!

Hi Gt....I was going to "like" this photo, but thought better of it~ we've had repeated soakings...so I think the fires that were burning in Quebec and in northwest Ontario have been doused... when we lived in northern Ontario we would sometimes suffer smoke from fires burning in Alberta!! Forresters tell us that it's nature's best way... sterlization and rejeuvenation follows. Wonder if this is setting the pattern for the summer? as long as it doesn't dry out and get stinky hot!
BTW.... love the gate and arbour!

Thanks Lori. Yes the smoke can be awful, and though it is natures way, nothing is going to come back fast. Glad to hear that any fires around you have probably been put out. We've had cloudy days, but just not the rain other than those quick thunderstorms or that nice day june 15. Hot and dry so far still.

I hope it rains soon for you Gt.....it must be really unnerving to be surrounded by wild fires...you don't want all your hard work damaged, are the firefighters keeping it under control?

Very interesting, GT. There is always something to learn on this site and I love it. It is a beautiful picture....until you realize what it is. Beautiful shot anyway.

Janey, things are under control enough. We are usually okay, though sometimes a highway closes or something. It is strange to know things are being incinerated all around. Glad it hasn't been near my home at least. I hope we get that good solid rain day again. We need it. (Not that I'm not enjoying all this sun)

Thank you Summerschild. :-)
