Only a small piece 4 years ago DD just seems to weave and spread itself around must divide it a bit this year haven't touched it since it was planted.
Thats a cardoon Dawn, looks like its going to be even bigger than last year bearing in mind the iris are nearly 4ft, rabbits kept chewing it to the ground earlier in the year but doesn't seem to have bothered it.

Oh yes Kathy, now that you say, I can see its a Cardoon - I lost mine this Winter :-(

Oh dear, Dawn! That does surprise me! So many plants that are supposed to be hardy died off, didn't they! Yet I have antirrhinums from last year, and a canna in a pot that's shooting up really well - I didn't dream that it could possibly survive.

Lost every one of my cannas Barbara, had them years and they were in the greenhouse in pots :-(

That's a shame about your Cannas Kathy, so frustrating. I lost my bottle brushes, my Phormium and Alan Bloom clematis :-(

Oh what a shame Dawn my bottle brush survived and phormiums, although had to cut a lot of dead foliage off, what about your passion flower, mines started growing new leaves so glad I left it a bit longer.

Last week I bought a Clematis Armandii to replace the passion flower. I moved the stones away from the base to dig it up and I was pleasantly surprised to see it was shooting, right at the base :-)

Oh good glad it survived, my Jasmine I thought I'd lost is sprouting too:-)
Clematis Armandii lovely one, did buy one from wilkos once but didn't survive for some reason, don't know why.

The label said the Armandii likes a sheltered, south facing wall (dont they all, wish I had a mile long, south facing wall, lol) so maybe they're not as tough as they look, so that's what I've done.

No doubt thats why mine didn't survive Dawn, thought it was in a sheltered spot, but if its windy here not much escapes:-(
