This image is from the flollowing site which is well worth a visit http://www.floralimages.co.uk/pnicanphysa.htm
The photographer is John Crellin. It shows the balloons beautifully. Inside the balloon is a round smooth skinned blue ball like the orange ones you would get in a physallis in a top restaurant or supermarket. The seeds are inside the ball, which has sections like an orange. The photo was taken at a site near Plymouth in 2006.

The link where I found this photo said the balloons were the buds but that is not the case. Apparently they are wild flowers in English books. I had never seen them before I started buying them. Because I thought they were annuals I put them out with the green waste until my sister told me the one I had given her had self seeded. There are lots of lovely flowers on that site that I would be very happy to have in the garden. I have a spotted orchid which again I bought at a rally and it seems to love growing here.

I would love to have orchids outdoors. I need to think about how to incorporate them....perhaps with a special orchid or alpine trough..not sure....mmm.....something to think on!
