These are the ultimate in low effort gardening aren't they.
I love to rub my fingers on the foliage to release it's scent.

Sorry to hear that Laura and Louise1... If you want to help them resist the mildew try mixing up some baking soda and water...spray them lightly ..and if it rains you may have to do it again to change the pH of the leaf and stem surfaces... to discourage the mildew...
Not only do the bees love it, Janey, ...the hummingbirds fight over it.!... It's interesting to watch the territorial little aerialists having dog-fights! the dominant one in my neighbourhood this year is a tiny little ruby throat male. zzzzzzziip~sip~zzzzzip....! lol.
Yes, Meanie, I took to the monarda immediately for numerous reasons...but they are very low maintenance. The leaves are the scent for Earl Grey Tea.... bergamot...monarda...whatever! lol. I think that perhaps I should try the pink and purple vars too...
