This Explorer rose was developed in Morden, Manitoba. All the roses developed in this series are very winter hardy, to suit the Canadian climate variations... It is "David Thompson" after "the greatest land explorer that ever lived"... David Thompson was a young Welsh orphan who left England at the age of 14 and came to Canada in the employ of the Hudson's Bay Company and over his lifetime mapped most of the Pacific northwest and found and mapped the land passages through the Rocky Mountains.
