Not sure on the insect...some sort of hornet or bee???

by happy coincidence I was looking up solitary bees...and saw a picture of a bee with much the same colouration... Yes there is such a thing as a solitary bee...if you give it a google you'll see some neat photos and a very interesting site with lots of bee info. I still can't seem to manage posting urls yet... I'll find my way someday.
