Monsoonal Rains Are Here

Monsoonal Rains Are Here

The beginning of the rains...which is pretty unusual for us so far west of the mountains. We usually just get the clouds, heat and humidity from the monsoonal flow. Photo taken July 15, 2010.

I once spent three months out in the far east and caught the monsoon - it was something to behold!

Meanie:

I can imagine how horribly hot and humid it was in the far east. Our low desert when it gets humid can feel like more than 130 degrees F/ 54 degrees C. Extremely unbearable!

Most of the time the monsoonal moisture stays in the deserts and mountains. We usually get the clouds, heat and humidity.

Your garden will love the rain ... as long as it doesn't last too long. Are you getting very heavy rain?

Bernieh:

The mountains had flash flooding which is normal for this time of year...with the monsoonal flow.

The rain here is never heavy enough nor last long enough this time of year. We usually don't receive any rain at all from mid-April through late November or early December.

how different our weather is...we have had the strongest summer rainy winds for years..force ten gales and 60 mile and hour winds...sunny today though...off outside now to make the most of it...hope yours cools down a bit...:-)

Sandra:

Wow! Sounds like exciting weather! The weather seems to be very crazy all around the world this year...not sure if it's due to the diminishing El Niño...or maybe some other phenomenon? : > )

This morning it's actually bearable. It's only suppose to up to 90 degrees F. / 32 degrees C. today.

We have a few showers but its otherwise lovely warm and sunny here in the east ...........:o)))

Mushybanna:

Sounds nice and conformable. We're back to our normal temps now, Thank God!!! However, another heat wave is a commin'...I hope is not too "HORRID" -- to quote my Australian GoY friend Bernieh.

20 Jul, 2010

When you live over here you cherish every heatwave as they don't happen very often..... :o))))

Mushybanna:

In the previous comment, I meant to say "nice and comfortable" LOL! : > )

You're lucky heat waves don't happen very often. They can cause a lot of damage to plants (depending on the severity). Of course, as you know we have heat waves all year. The ones in winter are the worst because they bring extremely dry air.

LOL ...We wish our weather would conform and did as it was told ....hehehehhe
Love it some typo's are just hilarious..:o))))))

Mushybanna:

I know what you mean. July is turning out to be one of the cloudiest on record for much of western San Diego County. It's pretty amazing...we're just used warm to hot, and sunny weather from July to November..and usually beyond.

Yes, I laugh at my typos also...generally when I posting late at night...I'm half falling asleep. : > )

Snap ... talk about coincidence once again. We're having the cloudiest Winter we've ever had ... so many overcast days one after the other. The plants are screaming out for some real sunshine ... which is so bizarre given our city's record for sunny days every year. This year is turning out to be such a different cup of tea ... so many showers of rain during Autumn and now so many dull days during Winter.

Bernieh:

It's ironic you've commented on your very unusual weather. I have your city on my iPhone weather application. I thought the weather predictions were incorrect, because it was showing showers and rain all week...and I know this is your city's dry season. Crazy! : > /

I know it's so very strange! I've talked to older people who've lived in San Diego all their lives and have never experienced such a cool and cloudy July ever. Many of the high temps in downtown San Diego have been lower the the normal low temps should be at this time of year. It'll be interesting to see what August brings.

The very unusual weather is most likely due to the quick transitioning from El Niño to La Niña in the tropical Pacific Ocean.

Hah ... I had to laugh ... even though there have been predictions of rain here, it just hasn't happened. We've had lots of dreary overcast days but no rain ... the weather bureau keeps on telling us we're getting rain ... but I have no idea where it's actually falling!!!!

27 Jul, 2010

Bernieh:

LOL!!! It sounds like our weather bureau. They're almost 80% of the time incorrect with their weather predictions. I guess I should have been a meteorologist...it's one field where you can be wrong and still keep your job. lol! : > )

I hope you get some sunny days ahead! Although cloudy weather can be good gardening weather as long as it's warm.
: > )

Yes more predictions of light showers again today ... dark clouds rolled in ... then rolled away!!! No sign of any rain whatsoever! Everyone is making a comment about the dreary overcast days as they're starting to cause dreary moods as well. We're used to bright sunny blue-sky days during Winter ... whilst it certainly is lovely being able to get out into the garden at any time of the day, the plants are all searching for sunshine.

Mind you Delonix1 your weather forcasters don't have as hard a time as ours do
All yours have to say is "its going to be warm and sunny " for 360 day's of the year ...LOL

28 Jul, 2010

Bernieh:

Wow! Well, I certainly can relate to the cloudy weather. We're having the coolest and cloudiest (marine layer) July weather in 80 years. Quite possibly at the end of the month it may be the coolest July on record in San Diego. It has been affecting people's moods and the economy which thrives on our sunny and warm (coast) to hot (inland) weather. The sun comes out inland (where I live) around 11:00 a.m. or so -- on the coast it's been pretty cloudy all day.

Let's hope next month will bring us more sun! : > )

28 Jul, 2010

Mushybanna:

You'll have to tell that to the weather forecasters here...as they never seem to get it correct. When they say it's going to be sunny, it's cloudy and vice-versa.

Typically we have a lot of sunshine and warm weather most of the year...this year is really the big exception. : > )
We can thank El Nino and La Nina for this strange weather.
