I wouldn't really call this 'burgundy', but it's still beautiful.

Not burgundy but lovely, the marking inside is beautiful.

Yes - I planted it in my island bed last year as I thought it'd be the right colour - but I moved it as soon as the first buds opened. Luckily, it was happy to be moved. as you see. :-)))

Love the markings so distinctive!

Yes, so do I! It's looking fine where I re-planted it. :-)

More pink ,but it,s still lovely ....

Thanks - yes, it hasn't got the right name for the colour, has it.

Like one of my Dahlias Spritz Top Mix Purple ..... now you would think the flower would be purple .... no... it,s red ......
27 Jul, 2010
Some people's colour sense must be a bit odd - don't you think? I hope the red Dahlia didn't spoil your scheme.
28 Jul, 2010
A lot of wishful thinking, don't get me started with all the purple flowers that are named 'blue'!

You're right - there aren't that many 'true-blue' flowers, are there? Blue roses? No. I don't really fancy one anyway, luckily. Like the thought of 'blue daffodils' - it's unnatural, somehow.

I can't think of anything worse ! this Penstemon is very similar to my Strawberries and cream ... . have you noticed that they are bringing more and more out each year with the same colouring and markings but calling them by different names ?
29 Jul, 2010
I'm usually a fan of 'true blue' but The idea of blue roses & daffodils is just wrong!
It's just a way of selling more, people are always after new things and they can always pretty up pictures and tell how much better the new plant is.

You and Amy are right - a collector of so-called 'new' plants might fall for a Penstemon which actually is v.v.v. similar to last year's model.
I like new plants - but the thought of creating blue Dianthus, Narcissi and roses makes me shudder! Why do they do it - money? fame? I won't be buying them...
30 Jul, 2010
Same,I love new plants but I guess traditional in some things.I also won't be buying blue tulips!
31 Jul, 2010
Nope. Nor me. :-(( I must be 'traditional' too, I think - or an old stick-in-the-mud! (Me, not you....) LOL.
31 Jul, 2010
LOL I am probably when it comes to my flowers :-)
31 Jul, 2010
Let's 'be' it together, then...LOL.
