Janey - she emerged from her exuvia (the larval shell) lower down on this bullrush and was waiting for the weather to improve before taking flight - it was drizzling when this pic was taken. She stayed there most of the day in fact and must have flown off in the late afternoon.

It s suprising how they hide under leaves , I ve seen butterflies sheltering under leaves then come out once the weather picks up.
