I haven't seen as many this year either - no flowers on my Buddleia to encourage them, I think I cut it back too hard.

Ooops - I have a nasty habit of doing that also, but it did just manage to survive the winter after its hard prune, thought mine was a gonner but it is over 6ft tall again now, must be getting something from somewhere to make it shoot up so high. the strange thing with one of mine is that it has two colours on the one shrub, one half white the other purple, it is really odd. have checked it out and it is definitely all one shrub/tree. It started to produce two colours a couple of years back started with just a few purple sprogs and now it has produced at least 50/50 this year very odd bush.

That's a bonus Olive and it must look particularly nice to have both colours together.

yes it is lovely but I am not a fan of white in the garden. would prefer it if it was all purple.

ah they are lovely, we have a shortage this year of butterflies, hope we see some more shortly, the butterfly bush has some white ones and a couple of peacock butterflies but nothing much else on it only seen one red admiral and we usually get load and loads of them, but on the other hand we have had brimstones (earlier) and little speckled wood butterflies - just love to see the bigger ones and we just haven't had them yet.
