Vaccinium vitis-idaea

Vaccinium vitis-idaea

Our low-bush cranberry blossom. These are more mealy of a berry and ripe after the first frosts or even under snow. A lovely ground cover native as well.

Wonder if that will grow over here?

Probably would with a nice wet bunch of peat to sit in. It is circumboreal so it lives in the boreal forests of Scandinavia, much closer than here. :-) May require the long cold winter like some other of our natives. The bearberry or kinnick kinnick is similar and enjoys all kinds of environments. It is Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, not as tasty a berry but usable.

~ looks pretty GT
~ grew some blueberries and blackcurrants this year but as they are still small haven't had a huge crop~ spent lots of time dissuading our new puppy from eating them!

Thanks Arlene. Good your keeping the puppy from them. Seems dogs do like to eat them though they don't agree with them at all. I meant to get some berry bushes into the garden this year, but the greenhouse work is making a dent in my motivation when I get home. Still, the gooseberry bushes are looking wonderful. We're starting to see autumn colors. Ah........alas.... :-)

~ are you working long hours GT?enjoying it I hope!
yes some of the leaves on the blueberries are starting to turn but it seems that winter went on so long that we have been cheated this year!
Hoping for a good September and October....

Its not the hours, just gardening all day doesn't make one want to come home and garden. I've avoided jobs in what I love in the past because you do give that personal connection away to the employer, love the work, but you lose it for yourself. I'm keeping up with it, just can;t do anything very high maintenance. :-)

I do hope that you get much more of the the warm seasons. This is right on time for us, but we've had good long autumns the last few years well into September which doesn't always happen. Things are looking better here than it seems around here. I'm behind on my photos. This good work tires me out. :-)
