Hoya pubicalyx cv "Silver Pink"

I'm lost for words - from the angle I guess that this must be six or seven feet up. Lovely colour, and well loaded with flowers on this spike too. In a good summer this must be a no go zone in the evening/night-time, as the scent would be way too heady!

This flower spike is almost at ground level...although this vine is growing up 10+ feet / 3 + meters high. This vine still has a lot of blooming time left. It will probably bloom heavily in late summer through early December if we have very hot weather then (I'm guessing that's what going to happen since our summer has been cooler than normal).

The fragrance from the flowers can overpowering...it's smell very good from a distance though. I've seen these vines on the trees in Balboa Park loaded with flowers and the scent is incredible...especially in the evening.

Yes, they can be kind of tangled-looking. Many times this vine is used to cover cyclone fences. I think they grow faster and bloom more profusely with more sun.

Camillia - I've posted photos of Sue's Hoya flowers (pages 3 and 5 of my photos) which is white. I can't tell you how heavily scented they are! The big difference is that we have to grow them as a house plant.

That's a really deep pink one, too. Mine was more ivory with a pink center.

I had to update the botanical name. This is not Hoya carnosa which has a whiter flower...also it tends to be less fuller and smaller leaves than this posted pic.

That explains it then - I thought Sues had less flowers because it was pot grown!

Pot-grown plants would most likely have less flowers and grow much slower than the ones in the ground.

I think carnosa is the most widely available Wax Vine...but I'm starting to see many more different species and varieties available at nurseries now.

I'm Wax Vine grows very well outside where you live.

These are one of my favourite genera along with their American herbaceous counterparts, Asclepias. Very interesting plants.
