You may get flowers yet San. Mine never flowered much before Sept.

oh thats sounds good karen, will keep looking, though most of it is covered by the salix tree, there is a clem there to, but im hoping in time they will reach up and flower ;o))

It will look great next year San , you might be lucky and get the odd flower this year ..........

mine the same san ,no flowers yet. but i think u may need a bigger surport 4 it they get very big .

think u may have too. i beleve if they are happy they go on and on. my sons covered the entire side of the house. it was stunning. but the bad winter killed it ;0(( . am hopeing mine does well 2.

well i got it last year as a young plant so was hoping this year, as karen said hers never flowered much before sept cristina, so time yet ;o)

Mine is about 7-8yr old and has been flowering the past month.Took a while to show life this year, so thought the winter had killed it. (no such luck) Lol. It does get to be a bit of a pain, when it's tangling in everything. I cut it back severely, but it still bounces back. You need to keep it in check, as it will overtake your clematis, and the stems/stalks will thicken quite a bit. Have I put you off them yet. Lol. hehehe :o))

Lindalooloo, you are so right. San, if it seems to have been killed by the winter, just cut it back to anything that looks as if it still has sap in it and it will come back. I used to have to cut mine hard back every late winter. It would seem ok until about Feb and then it would succumb to the effects of the prolongued cold temps. It would always come back with a vengeance in about June and be flowering again by late Aug/Sept. The full on flowering never happened until October though...but I am a lot further north than you so less light in the autumn/winter. It will get massive but as you say, some judicious training might keep it in it's place!

I agree with you Karen. If you don't show it who's boss, it will get everywhere. I have it growing side by side with a clematis, which is the same age,(the purple one in my pics), and if I don't keep an eye on it, it'll go beserk. When it flowers it's beautiful ( as in my pic of the 1st flower this year), but you wouldn't want to be with me, when I'm trying to control it, cos I'm cursing and swearing, (this is going to be it's last year) as those little tendrils wind around everything. Like Cristina said about covering her sons house, it can be as troublesome as Ivy if your not careful. I'm a real comforter, am I not? Lol. :o))

Lol.Sand. You will be able to train it as you like, and even if you cut off this years growth, you'll be able to train next years. Once they are established, they're hardy and vigorous, so you should be able to do anything with it. You will need a strong support though like Cristina said, but when they start shooting, their shoots can grow a heck of a length. They also tend to grow more facing you, rather than twist, if you can understand what I mean. Will take a pic of mine later, and upload for you to have an idea what to expect. :o))

I just did a blog on it. Thought it easier than doing just pics. Just wrote the blog, then had to edit it cos some pic were missing, then for some reason my title changed to Clematis. Dont't ask, haven't a clue why title changed. Thought I was doing quite well by here on my own. Then I got a comment from Grandmage, went to read it and deleted the blog. Lol. Don't ask, haven't a clue.
