Lovely young bolete, already the size of a softball. These are edible and quite good but often full of bugs as they like them too. A young one like this should be clean and fresh. I debated a while on picking and eating, but finally decided to let it be.

They can really be large. I watched a rock squirrel eat half one in a sitting while resting on a small mountaintop I'd climbed. Huge bites that he would spend long minutes chewing and watching us, cheeks stretched. Nice young plump one like this. Wonder if I still have those shots around here somewhere... :-)

Oh yum and beautiful. I am on the lookout for giant puffballs my favourite shroom.

I've had puffball all over there this year, small but lots! Bolete is common many places, but not always clean, so look for little fresh ones. They can sit for weeks. Most are edible.
