tree fallen

this part of the tree I am pointing at is where it broke off HALF WAY UP . this is not the root. it seems to be powdery, anyone know why, just glad we were not near when it came down as this is a popular woods in bearwood west midlands

thanks for comment, husband was curious as to what had caused it, the woods look great any time of the year with the changing seasons.

Could be that a bracket fungus had severely weakened the tree, Beech are susceptible to this type of fungus in old age. You would need to look at the base to be sure. If it is a bracket fungus, then it should be clearly visible
