Fabulous pond area ... what is that tall structure in the background near the brick wall?

It is called a pinnacle, it is the remains of an ancient tree that was probably about 130 feet hight by 5 feet wide, formed by centuries of erosion in an ancient flooded valley in Asia (possibly Thailand or Cambodia). The trees are eaten by mussels and sculpted by currents of the water. Tests by a British newspaper showed that these pinnacles are estimated to be about 12,000 years old. I have 4 in the garden, this is the tallest. I love them.

That is fascinating ... I've never heard of these before! It certainly adds a wonderful sculptural dimension to your garden ... and I'd imagine it would be a talking point for any visitor to your garden. Have you ever 'opened' your garden to the public?

Not as such, but many people have come to look at the garden (and share a glass of wine) and I am always delighted to share my passion with other people. In 2 weeks I will have to close the garden until spring, as I will be off to Australia for several weeks yippeee.
