This is going to be a challenge.

Yes Meanie they are not for my "location"...but I'm going to try to save one or two as houseplants (under lights of course) and going to try bonsai techniques on six of them...It may well be a fizzle... but I was so encouraged when I planted the seeds and nearly every one came up! (Of course, I had to wait until the hottest part of the summer just to be sure that the soil temps would be right for them to germinate.) This is an experiment.

It will be interesting to see if you can manage to nurse them along...and especially if you can go the bonsai route. Have fun with your experiment, Lori.
I thought the name Jacaranda sounded familiar....now I've googled and realize it is the fabulous tree full of blue blossom that we were all admiring a week or so ago when it was put on photos! You will have a challenge growing these in your climate!

Yes... I'm not sure how old they have to be before I can start with root pruning. will have to do a refresher on bonsai. I think I'd like to try a grove planting...in an oval container... any suggestions?

Sorry, Lori....I've no experience with bonsai....have you looked under "B" in GOYpedia (at the bottom of the page)? I believe they do a lot of bonsai at Kew Gardens too so it might be worth checking out their website.
By a grove planting do you mean in a grouping? An oval container sounds perfect. Keep us posted on progress.

Yes, Whistonlass... the oval container would be planted with a grouping of trees arranged as they would appear in nature...in a small grove of six, or so, plants. I would be like looking at a tiny forest!
