I see this orchid available for sale a lot...not sure what variety it is but I really like it. Photo taken in Botanical Building, Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on Sept. 29, 2010.

Looks rather like one of the many Miltoniopsis hybrids to me.

It most likely is a Miltoniopsis hybrid. I'll have to take pics of the tags next time. :>)

That's how I "remember"!!

Meanie:
I've never been very knowledgeable about orchids. However, I do know plant flower structures for certain species and can give an educated guess.

The thing with orchids that messes me up is the way they change the classifications and do away with whole sub species all the time. For example, Doritaenopsis is no longer recognized!!

Meanie:
Get used to it. The taxonomist are re-classifying genera faster than I ever remember in the past. It's very disconserting and frustrating! :>(

I was thinking that the spike length and spot pattern made it an Odontonia hybrid. On the off chance, do you know how many leaves their were to the pseudobulb, Delonix? Odontonias usually have 2-3 leaves per pseudobulb, while Miltoniopsis usually have only 1.

Tugbrethil:
These definitely had more than 2 or 3 leaves per pseudobulb.

Beautiful ...

I thought that the lip looked wrong, which is why I suggested Miltoniopsis. This is why the experts won't even do a photo id!

Identifying plants is a very tricky and complicated process.
