Aconitum cammaram Bicolor

Aconitum cammaram Bicolor

New perennial for me this year. Once place, it leaned in and stashed itself away beneath the ligularia leaves. One stem crawled up there and set this one bloom. I hoping to see a nice big plant next year. I think they are lovely, though very posionous.

The ones that I've seen in other gardens form big clumps over time. Let's hope that ours do the same! I think that the flowers have a slightly sinister look about them!

Me too - I now have three.

A hooded beauty!

Thank you. I've heard of trouble by people growing these up here, but I think it will do fine. I had never thought them sinister though the look is very unusual. I just hope to get more blooms at the least. :-)

I think that it's the Darth Vadar cap!

LOL! Now I'll be hearing that voice in response when I talk to it. '...inhale..exhale....need some water...inhale..exhale...or else'

LOL....Darth Vadar cap...I can see it!! I always thought that the unopened buds look a bit like alien faces.
I love Monkshood. I planted a root of the bicolour this year but it sent up one shoot and then disappeared. I'm hoping that it will come back next year but I wouldn't be surprised if it has kicked the bucket. I don't think they like my clay soil much. I have a regular blue one that does alright but not amazingly well.

I'm happy if it lives. I just love them too. We have a native one that is dark blue and much more wispy than anything sold, but it doesn't grow in the lows spots like where I am. They are famous here for being temperamental.

My Monkshood has expanded ...it is planted in clayey soil but I've put it under the larch and close to the shed and mulched it with rabbit compost. It seems to be quite happy as it is presently blooming. The blooms aren't as plentiful as last year but the plant itself is larger. Where does the idea that a hooded creature is sinister come from anyway? In the case of this plant perhaps it is warranted. I don't handle it without gloves on... good luck, Gt... hope yours gets over it's snit and hangs in til next year!

Thank you Lori. It should recover. About the reputation of the hood, that has me thinking. I guess it generally represents hiding something or secretive behavior.

LOL... yes, and what's hidden might just jump out and bite you! Boooooo.... Happy Hallowe'en!

Your pic prompted me to go out and take a picture of my plant...
