Hedgehog shelter

I built this using a large old plastic barrel which I cut in half length ways. It's about 3 feet long and 18 inches in diameter. No matter how wet it is outside it's perfectly dry inside.. I sited it next to an ever expanding compost heap and it's now well covered with grass cuttings. I will stuff it with dry leaves in the next few days and I hope a hedgehog will find it comfortable. All the neighbour hood cats seem to like sheltering in it except my daft moggy Moz who prefers to sit in the middle of the lawn in a thunderstorm wondering why he's getting wet!

It's a great design, AM and really blends in so well to the ground. I hope you get a hedgehog or two to settle down nice and snug :)

That's a good idea with the barrel , we have a wooden one under a bank , the hedgehogs do use it , it probably won't last as long as yours though ...

Hope the animals appreciate all your efforts to keep them snug this winter Anchorman, it's wonderful that someone cares enough to do that.
