Thanks both,this plant is very hardy when it is older, we had one before in the ground that grew to 6 ft, but had to take it out in order to build the garden room.

Trachycarpys fortunei moves very well at any size. It's a tough, hardy palm. :>)

I wish I had known that at the time Delonix, have discovered you can unwrap them, debark them? so much more attractive when they get very old.

Cutting off of the fibrous sheaths along the trunks is a very common practice here. I'll take some photos of some tall trees. T. fortunei commonly grows to 30ft/ 10m - 50ft/16m tall here.

Please do....have never seen them that large here.

I just wanted to add a comment about how fast T. fortunei grows in CA. I've read on the Palm Society website: People have grown Trachycarpus fortuenei from 60 cm (24") to 7 m (21 feet) in 6 years.
