That's funny! Heat waves are common here in November, just not so extreme...Nov. is the sunniest month in San Diego.

Is the 4 degrees C. a high or low temp. for the day?

Just fabulous, Andy ... how wonderful to see the bloom. You're having heat waves and we're having one of the wettest 'dry' seasons for a long, long time!!! Yesterday we received around an inch ... it felt like the rainy season had arrived early.

What an unusual plant! We see plenty of plants with bracts for petals but this one is really unusual! Does it often flower in November?

You are having one heck of a heatwave over there! 32ºC would be a heatwave for us here in June/July! After a few very cold, rainy days with extremely strong winds, we are back into quieter weather with temps around 12ºC max. Tomorrow id expected to be a little cooler. Night temps are falling to around 6ºC.

It has been a very, very strange weather year for many countries around the world! I hear people talking all the time about the weather here being the strangest anyone can ever recall. I hope it gets back to somewhat normal soon!

I wonder if all the rain you've been getting is a prelude to what to expect when the real 'wet season' comes.

This plant is a summer and fall blooming plant.

Those temps are chilly, I assume it's not too unbearable, though?

Heat waves with temps up to 92F/33C. are not that uncommon this time of year...however, temps to 100F/38C are pretty rare.

12ºC is perfectly bearable at this time of the year. The body adapts pretty quickly & you can even feel too hot if you are "over dressed" expecting it to be colder than it actually is. I work on the allotment some days when the temps have been half that & haven't felt cold, mind you I wrap up warm as I don't fancy catching a cold or worse.

Yes, I really like this plant! I've grown it before, however, it died from the hard water here. This plant only receives reclaimed bottle water or rain water...and it loves it! :>)

If you want to get water that's lime free or "soft" you can get it from various sources like the melted frost or ice from your freezer, (The stuff that forms on it's own, not what you put in!), or, as I do, from the tumble dryer, if it's the condenser sort. It's evaporated water so contains no other elements. I've been using that source for several years to water my Camellia on the balcony. My wife uses it for the steam iron.

Reclaimed bottled water is: Bottled water which has warmed or is old...I pour into a large container. I don't waste any water here...we're still on water restrictions.
