Tsuga canadensis 'Armistice'

Tsuga canadensis 'Armistice'

There are so many hemlock varieties out there and I don't know much about this one. I really liked the shape of this one and it'll be interesting to see what it looks like in a few years.

My yard is mostly made up of canadian hemlocks now, I think I planted 12 of them this summer. I didn't know about the witches, do they make a repellent for that?

Don't really know much about them Rk, just that I remember tales of hemlock and witches as a youngster. I am sure yours aren't the ones I heard of though.

I was just kidding around anyways. That's interesting to know, I'd like to find out about some of those tales. I love hemlock though, they are beautiful conifers especially compared with pines and spruces. They make a beautiful screen but they aren't always easy to establish in my sandy yard.

They cerainly do have lovely dainty leaves, how tall will it grow eventually RK?

This one is an irregularly-shaped dwarf variety and might get around 8' (2.5m) tall. The species tree can get really tall (and wide). The regular tree form is much nicer looking than this variety and has a soft texture and the branches look almost like they're weeping. It's really a beautiful conifer but has been under attack by the wooly adelgid across most of the US (thankfully not in Michigan). They can be sheared to about any size and look nice too.

Well we'll be able to watch this one grow perhaps and you can give us an update.
