There are three Erysimums still in flower - this is one of them.

Thank you. I do like them for their long flowering period, as you know, and the yellow and orange ones 'go' well in my back garden borders.

The foliage is a beautiful colour. I love that dark blueish green.....very 'festive'! If the flowers were red it would be even more so!...Now there's an idea for a festive front door potting recipe!!

Ah, but if the flowers were red, it wouldn't be in my back garden! lol. (I don't think there are any red perennial Erysimums, are there).

No idea, you would know better than me!

I'm certain, Karen - only the biennials may have red flowers, and I don't have space for them.

...mmm and they don't have the lovely dark leaves do they....oh well, perhaps one will be bred in time for next christmas! ;)

Some hopes! Mind you, I keep finding different ones...and losing them, too. Boo hoo! They don't appear to be long-lived plants. My New Year's Resolution must be to take cuttings of them.
22 Nov, 2010
Yes, good plan! I am also resolving to do some propogation next year. I have some cuttings in the greenhouse, and some on the kitchen window sill in water....got to start somewhere. Up until now I have only really done 'splitting' and seed sowing. It would be good to do more cuttings and perhaps even some root cuttings next year. Unfortunately I don't have a great deal of patience, and things tend to get tossed out too soon, before they have had a chance to really decide whether to live or die! I've started on the decorating of the hall with 10 doors tonight....sanded half of a door!!! It could take some time, but I'm thinking if I do a door a day I will have it prepared in 10 days time!! Might even get it done before Christmas if I can get the plasterer to come and fix all the cracks!

TEN doors, Karen? Are you mad or a masochist to put yourself through that? LOL
Mind you, we've decided to have a new kitchen, (after 6 years of living with this one and moaning about it!) so in late January/February, I'll be tearing my hair out. So I'll be like you then, as we'll do some decorating ourselves - but not 10 doors!
23 Nov, 2010
Well there's Ten doors B. I cant really do half can I? lol....I'll get through them in time.....done half of one...nine and a half to go!! There are six upstairs and four downstairs just in case you think I live in a palace!

Oops forgot to say...new kitchen! How wonderful and exciting! Know what you mean, been moaning about my kitchen since I got it...nothing wrong with it, just not to my 'taste'. Far too basic! Fridge too small and hob too small as well! I do like to cook and these new houses have kitchens for people who do microwaving and oven chips!! I bet you have one of those amazing range cookers do you B? I love them! Oooh, how exciting! It will so be worth all the hassle and inconvenience. Just think, you and OH could go out for dinner every night while they are doing it all!

No, sorry - no Aga or range. Just a ceramic hob and double oven. We're not really planning to change the appliances, but the worktops are dreadful - made of 4" tiles, which I have to scrub with a nailbrush. The floor is carpet tiles - honestly! The units are hand-made chestnut, so it's a dreadful shame to get rid of them, but it's soooo dark. We're looking for light units and a granite top, plus warm coloured terracotta floor tiles. It should be a lot better. :-)))
We're going to have problems because the local pub has closed (on a temporary basis, we all hope!) so for evening meals we'll have to drive several miles.
It'll all be worth it when it's all done, though.
How many doors have you sanded so far in your mansion? LOL
23 Nov, 2010
Still on a half....far too sunny today and I've run out of sand paper so it won't get done tonight either! Oh well, back is sore...need rest...going to sit with OH while he watches the Gunners!
23 Nov, 2010
Eeek! You're brave! I award you a medal. :-)))
I=O There you are! lol.

Blooming got a lot worse in the end B!! OH not happy and me too....game was soooooooooo booooorrrrrriiiiiinnnnnngggg! Note to self....support Man U next season! lol ;)
24 Nov, 2010
I'd have gone back to sanding - 'anything's' better than football! LOL
25 Nov, 2010
LOL....now, that's a bit extreme!! ;))
25 Nov, 2010
I simply can't stand it! I'm not really 'into' any sport on TV except maybe tennis.
25 Nov, 2010
Yes, I'm a t.v. tennis fan too! I did have a spell playing for my local club second team, but it didn't last long.....I hate myself when I get competitive!! I'd rather let the opposition win than get all fierce and all that!! :)))
25 Nov, 2010
My trouble is getting too worked up over a match - this will sound crazy, but I'd rather watch it when I already know the result! ;-/
25 Nov, 2010
No, that sounds totally reasonable to me! ;) You should have seen Nadal and Djokovic last night. One of Rafas shots was totally incredible! He ran right around the ball, hit it so hard I thought it was going to land on the moon, and it landed in the very opposite corner of the court. Djokovic looked totally gutted, which is sad as I have rather a soft spot for Novak!! :)) But I love watching Rafa play...brilliant and a great sport he is too, very gracious I think.

Blimey, that comment was quicker than a federer ace!!
25 Nov, 2010
LOL....
I simply can't watch Andy Murray play....:-/
25 Nov, 2010
He is a total P******!! Can't stand him...or his pushy mother!! Sorry and all that...but NO!! ...Glad we agree on that!!
25 Nov, 2010
I am not personally acquainted with Mrs Murray, so I can't comment. LOL. He's a bad loser, I think. :-((
25 Nov, 2010
Oh, are you personally acquainted with Mr Murray then B? lol ;)
25 Nov, 2010
Errrrr.....nope! LOL.

Not a fan of Erysemiums...I know, I already said that at least once! However, who could fail to appreciate that colour and contrast on a day like this? Lovely!
