The San Diego Zoo has many Spiny palms growing...however, it not too widely grown here because it is absolutely loaded with needle-like spines. Photo taken Dec. 2, 2010.

It is a very spiny palm...it has spines on the trunk, petioles, and leaflets.

Thanks! Aiphanes species are incredibly beautiful palms...it's too bad it's not too widely grown here. It is a viciously spiny palm, though...and couldn't be used in commercial landscape (too much of a liability).
