Many species of Salvia are blooming now in San Diego, CA. Photo taken Dec. 13, 2010.

There's hundreds of shrub Salvia species which are native from Mexico to S. America which grow wild here. Most are very drought and heat tolerant. Also, most are long-lived and need no care.

Just doesn't seem exotic enough, if you know what I mean?

Meanie:
Most of the species grown here would probably be considered exotic there. Most are shrubs which grow up to 6ft/2m or taller. They need hot and dry conditions.

For some reason I never expected you to post a photo of Salvia (only because I never associated them with California).
But thinking about it logically it makes sense - are there any S.oxyphora there?
