Oenothera speciosa, showy evening primrose! I love this, bought some this year. It spreads really well and does great in poor soil. I have so many little babies popping up and I hope it will fill in the bare spots in my garden. My favorite comment about this plant comes from Armitage's "Native Plants for North American Gardens." Under "care requirements," he writes something like "None, except its removal when it has gobbled up sufficient acreage."

I just went outside to look at mine. I didn't know it would be evergreen, and I also had no idea how many babies I had. I began with three plants and now have probably 50. It's everywhere.

Working in the nursery, I have sold a great many of this plant, and later sold quite a bit of weed killer to get rid of it! ; )

Oh, dear.
I knew this plant could be invasive but I loved it. I think its spread will be limited because I have so much shade...there are not really very many good places for it to take hold.
