Can't believe that this Antirrhinum has continued to flower after the recent cold snap!

Meanie:
I'm guessing Snapdragons are grown there only in summer time?
It's just the opposite here...they're a winter annual.

you must be further south than i realised delonix ~ they would be sold as summer annuals here.

Oity I left my salvias out this winter, I forgot beause of the exhibition thingy, don't expect to see them flowering ever again, glad I took some seeds though!

I live in San Diego, CA. (which is at 32degrees N. latitude) and has a frost-free subtropical climate.

thanks delonix ~ i just hadnt realised how very much further south than us you were ~ subtropical ~ amazing!

Stickitoffee:
lol! Yes, San Diego is the furthest south on the west coast one can travel before going over the border to Tijuana, Mexico. (yes, it's a border city. lol! -- sometimes not such a good thing)

ah, that explains it ~ i can picture it better now ~ thanks.

Stickitoffee:
Great! :>)
Are you located at about 53º N. latitude in the U.K.?
11 Jan, 2011
you know this stuff better than i do ~ and i should know! i had to look it up!
52degrees north where we are ~ roughly!
20 degrees of latitude would make a lot of difference!!

Stickitoffee:
Yes, 20º of latitude...makes a huge difference in climate.
It's like traveling from where you live in the U.K., down to around Alexandria, Egypt.

quite a journey!
dont think the camels would do so well here tho!

Stickitoffee:
Yes, quite a journey! :>)
Camels are more adaptable than you think...there's several species of camels at the San Diego Zoo.
13 Jan, 2011
not sure if we have camels in our zoo ~ london certainly has!
what would be 20 degrees due north of you?

Stickitoffee:
San Diego's World-Famous Zoo is known for the pandas, flamingos, koala bears and California Condors (which is the second largest flying bird in the world...after the South American Condor.
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is 21º (almost due north) of San Diego. It's 2,881km/1790miles away! :>)
