Jimmy lives next door but his owners are away for 5 weeks so I have the pleasure of his company. Here he is sitting on the desk next to my computer . This shot is very slightly out of focus as it was taken without flash indoors in fairly low light and he moved his head a bit..
You can see he has a small wound on his flank.
It started about 6 months ago and he's been to the vets many times ,had an operation and several courses of antibiotics.
It seemed to have cleared up and then two days before his owners went on holiday a lump the size of a very large egg came up. It didn't seem to bother him but then the next day he chewed the top off... much pus issued forth.
His owners took him to the vet who did nothing and they they left the next day for new Zealand!
I've got to admit I was somewhat concerned about being left with a poorly dog but luckily it is now much better .

Thevet apparently said that as the wound was discharging well and that several previous antibiotics hadn't worked we should apply a hot compress to the wound 3 times a day to draw it out and if this didn't work take him back.
I did this for a day and the infection drastically improved. since then I've lightly cleaned it at very regular intervals. Fingers crossed it will be Ok now.

poor doggy and bad vets, glad all seems ok now, strange thing as a friend has a german shepherd with similar thing and it comes and goes, but vets dont seem to be able to clear altogether

I bet he likes his holiday at your Aman.....that wound looks very clean and if a wound can look healthy, it does...Lol!
I think animals are like us some prone to cysts more than others....but well done you.
His right ear is similar to Lotties....inside out...she spends ages with both her like this, and looks like she has a hat on....:o))

He s lovley and what a shame about his flank, what kind of vet does nothing, and what kind of owners leave with out taking him else where, I m wondering could it be a cyst if puss is comming from it, would he be run down in himself or it could even be cancerous. I too would be concerned looking after a poorly dog, so glad it is getting better while its stay with you, you are doing a wonderful job.
