nature's pruning

Lori

By Lori

nature's pruning (Aspen)

The way of the forest is simple...grow very big over centuries...and return to the forest floor to nourish new life... It looks braced and solid...but best not to get too close.

still plenty of snow Lori, when does it start to thaw normally.

Not much long term thawing until well into March, Sandra. Some years we get most of our snow in March!
Not to panic ...it goes fairly quickly. Some colder springs there has been snow in the bush until almost May. Being new to this area, I really don't know what to expect. We shall see!

wow can be a long winter then Lori and short summers, but its what you are use to more or less, and your happy and thats means everything ;o))

I hope you will build a tree house Lori...that's what I would do if I had a woodland! And in the summer I would sleep in it occasionally and sit up all night watching the wildlife and listening to the owls and drinking a bottle of wine!

Thanks San, we have four very distinct seasons here, and each is special. My favourite is Spring. the sound of running waters...spring peepers (frogs) ...wild flowers in the woods and warm gentle breezes. sigh.
In a blog soon to come, I hope to be able to tell the story of our cabin (or maybe cabinS) lol...great idea Karen. Hubby wants a spot to stargaze and we have just the place for it, but it's at the opposite corner of the property from the house on a very high ridge of granite rock...we would like to have a little rest cabin and a viewing platform to place the telescope on.

I guess I sound a little delerious. I probably am...not going anywhere today..this morning it was above zero and raining...by noon it was sleet..and it's supposed to go down to minus 19 degrees C. over night..will need ice pitons to go anywhere tomorrow morning! BUT...it will warm as the week progresses..and by Friday it's forecast to be 10 degrees C...that's on the plus side of zero! Hope we don't flood! lol...

Good grief! Hope some of that warm weather comes our way! What quick changes of temp. you have to cope with Lori!

I hope you don't floor either Lori. You'll have to build a raft just in case........plenty of wood for a woodburning stove then.

I don't think I would need to cut a tree for wood, Linda, as the deadfall and dry kindling just needs to be gathered. We have a woodburning stove but haven't used it. Hubby likes a more regulated heat. But I can see us using it next winter when we've had a chance to get the hang of it.
