What a wonderful sight. Would u say they've spread since last year Amy?
14 Feb, 2011
Thanks Yorkshire / Holly you can just see the daffodils coming up between them ....
I'm sure they have spread Dawn ,the clumps are getting bigger each year the flowers seem to be bigger and taller as well , some are single and some are doubles ... they are under my Kent cob nut tree if you look carefully you can see where the squirrel has been digging for his buried nuts .. :o)

Wow havent you got a lovely show, Im afraid I have only a small group showing from the ones I planted last year, but have high hopes that one day they will multiply and put on a show like yours;0)

Hi Amy, I'm sure mine have spread a little too and seem taller funnily enough. Hope the squirrel hasnt disturbed them. I think its a matter of being patient Pansy, I live in hope of large clumps eventually forming a carpet .... one day.

Yours will multiply Carole they are still quite new , you will notice the difference another year ...:-)
Dawn I have a feeling that the squirrels are helping to spread them because I often see bulbs which they have dug up and disturbed lying on the top , I push them back in somewhere else ... also they are coming up in the flower beds ..... ;o)

Oh lol amy, looks like the squirrels have a distribution service going on, hopefully they're just after the hazel nuts.

What a beautiful sight Amy....gone onto faves!

Dawn I have never been able to harvest the lovely cob nuts the naughty squirrels always raid the tree first :o(
Thanks Janey , I love going to look at these in the morning the daffs will soon be in flower between them as well .... ;o)

Oh dear Amy, those greedy squirrels. Our hazel trees arent nice kent cobs but what few nuts are produced are taken by the squirrels, the shells on the ground are all we get, lol
16 Feb, 2011
We have some hazel nut trees in the hedge Dawn , it's like walking on a crunchy carpet of shells when they have finished with them :o) they eat those and bury the cobs nuts to save for winter ...
16 Feb, 2011
Rascals ... So do they dig the cob nuts up in winter, as planned, hence the holes? Do the nuts ever grow?
16 Feb, 2011
Yes they dig the cob nuts up in the winter Dawn , I can see all the holes in between the snowdrops under the kent cob tree ... , these ones don't get the chance to grow because once the snowdrops / daffs etc. have died down we mow the grass as this is where the fruit trees are .. we still have the odd Walnut tree growing from buried nuts before the walnut tree died , I have two that are approx. 2ft tall , our son would like those the next time we go up there .....
17 Feb, 2011
At least the squirrels were useful by setting the walnuts Amy, lol. We have 3 walnuts trees now, 2 were free from the council, only tiny. I dont think I'll see any nuts in my lifetime, lol.
17 Feb, 2011
You might do Dawn , I'll have to ask our friends how long it was before their trees produced Walnuts from being small trees ........ I know they have had walnuts on them !
17 Feb, 2011
That would be useful Amy, our biggest tree is around 12 feet tall and we've had it set for 9 years.
17 Feb, 2011
That's doing well Dawn ,I will ask them and let you know ... I'm off to watch Emmerdale now ...LOL....
