I like this plant! They grow very well outdoors in the garden here. Of course, it makes a great houseplant too.

I fell in love with this plants flowers when I first saw them...
I only bought it last week. I have it in my house at the moment, afraid to leave it out....

Thanks Yorkshire. I want to see if I can get seeds off it...(would you like some?)
I baked delicious Cinnamon Rolls a little while ago...yum yum

Alexandramou:

This plant is pretty tropical...it's extremely tender to cold or even cool weather.

15 Feb, 2011

Delonix,
It's in all cozy in my house where no wind or cold weather is going to harm it!!! ;o)

15 Feb, 2011

oh wow!!

Alexandramou:

I have the Goldfish Plant (Nematanthus wettsteinii), which I've posted several times. It's in my backyard...it does very well there. I've never grown it as a houseplant before.

I'm going to take cuttings in the spring. I'm moving this outdoors in spring as well, I want to try getting some seed pods off it.
Next winter I will have one plant outdoors and this one indoors.

16 Feb, 2011

yes please if you get seeds Alex

16 Feb, 2011

Alexandramou:

That's a good idea. Then you'll know if it can grow outside in winter...and you'll have a back up just in case.

I've never seen these plants produce seeds pods here. Maybe you'll have better luck. :>)

16 Feb, 2011

Delonix,
I searched for pictures and info on the seed pods when I bought the plant. Very easy to miss the seed pods as they look almost like the flower. My mission the summer.

17 Feb, 2011

Alexandramou:

Maybe that's why I've never noticed seed pods. :>)

I'll have to check out my Goldfish plant in the my backyard. It's loaded with flowers now.

Now, that I'm thinking about it...my mother has a gigantic Goldfish plant (in the San Francisco Bay Area)...and she has small plants popping up all over...so my mother must get many seed pods on her plant.

17 Feb, 2011

Let me know what you find.

17 Feb, 2011

Alexandramou:

I think I did notice some seeds pods. I'll see if I can get a good close up of the pods.

18 Feb, 2011

Waiting for the picture Delonix.

18 Feb, 2011

Alexandarmou:

From what I've noticed the starting of the seeds pods look very similar to the flower buds...maybe this is why I've never noticed them before. lol! :>)

I'll get some pics soon. We're expecting a very large storm with lots of rain over night and throughout our holiday weekend.

18 Feb, 2011

Yes, that's what they look like. I've seen pics on the net.

Oh, keep safe with this storm. We were suppose to have crazy winds today but not even a breeze at the moment. maybe this is the calm before the storm ;o}

What holiday?

19 Feb, 2011

Alexnadramou:

I hope your storm isn't too intense!

The storm was very intense last night with heavy rains and very strong winds...we're going to get the second punch tonight with possible strong thunderstorms and hail. I absolutely hate hail! It can cause major damage to my plants.

19 Feb, 2011

Delonix,
It wasn't even a storm in the end...just really windy. Lucky for us.
I hope all your plants survive your second punch...

20 Feb, 2011

Alexandramou:

Glad your storm was nothing in the end. The storm last night here wasn't too bad...just some wind and heavy rain off-and-on. Now it's clearing out and very chilly by San Diego's standards, as the high was only 60ºF/16ºC. today.

21 Feb, 2011

Delonix,
We both got lucky then.
oh no...16C brrrr ;o)

21 Feb, 2011

Alexandramou:

The last few days have been pretty darn cold for this time of year in San Diego. It's going to be pretty cool for the rest of the week. I guess all the summer and spring-like weather is gone for now.

23 Feb, 2011

It's been really yukky here Delonix, drizzle drizzle rain rain. Today it is a gorgeous sunny day, let's hope it stays this way. It feels really cold though, let me stick my thermometer outside...

23 Feb, 2011

Alexandramou:

It's only 54ºF/12ºC right now at 11:30 p.m. at night. It's suppose to be clear and sunny until this coming weekend...then it may rain again. We can always use rain here in San Diego's typically rain-starved climate, though.

23 Feb, 2011

12C in the shade at 9:30 a.m.
It's going to be a nice day with all this sun shine!!!

23 Feb, 2011

Alexandramou:

It sounds like it's going to be a nice day there.

Tomorrow, the high here is only suppose to get up to 63ºF/17ºC. (which was the high here today)..that's well below normal.
