Multi-headed Pygmy date palms are more common than most people think. This Palm is growing at the San Diego Zoo. Photo taken Feb. 11, 2011.

It's actually quite common to see multi-headed Pygmy date palms. Many times there's a lot more branches.

Unfortunately, this palm was overly pruned. Dwarf pygmy date palms usually have many fronds and are usually very full.

Yes.
With so many millions of palms here...unfortunately, over pruning is a common practice. (it saves money-- however, it can kill some palms). :>(
