Palms in Downtown San Diego, CA.

I never understood why all the rows of Alexander Palms (Archontophoenix alexandrae) were taken out to plant these very common Mexican Fan Palms. Photo taken Feb 12, 2011.

The Alexander palms were removed about 14 years ago. It was quite possibly due to their heavy water requirements. Mexican Fan palms are extremely drought tolerant. However, there's grass planted below them which get regular water...so, it didn't make sense to me. Alexander palms are much more elegant.

These palms are still babies. They'll grow to 100ft/32m tall or taller.
