Ficus macrophylla - Australian Banyan Tree Surface Roots

This reminds me of days long gone.....

That's just an estimated age. However, there's a Ficus religiosa - Bo Fig, Sacred Tree which is the oldest documented tree in the world in Sri Lanka (Ceylon), India. The tree was planted 288 BC.

I've seen Sleepy Hallow...the tree was a species of oak (or simulated oak) lol! :>) .

Delonix, if that Sri Lankan Ficus is the one in their Botanical Gardens then i've seen it, it's breathtaking.

We do call it the Moreton Bay Fig here, also. California has the the largest trees in the U.S. because they've been grown here longer than any where in the U.S. (since the 1870's). One in Santa Barbara was planted in 1877 and has a spread of about 200ft/64m. This Santa Barbara tree was thought to be the largest in the U.S., however, now there's some larger ones in the Los Angeles and San Diego metro areas.

It's a great story, isn't it? I heard that the Australian sailor gave this girl 5 to 7 seeds...supposedly, there's some other large Moreton Bay Figs around Santa Barbara from these seeds. Unfortunately, no knows for sure.
