This Aloe is the national flower of the southern African nation of Zimbabwe. Photo taken at San Diego Botanical Gardens on Mar. 1, 2011. This is a very commonly grown Aloe in CA.

This is a small one...the trunk grow very tall on this Aloe.

Thanks! There's so many interesting winter blooming plants here in San Diego. Many of the spring blooming plants are blooming or starting to bloom now, too. :>)

Do Aloe thraskii grow there? It's one of my favorite and it's one of the larger growing ones (but not taller than Aloe bainesii [barberae]).

Yes, you would love the gardens here. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take photos in January when all the Aloes were in full bloom.
