Meanie:

Wow! A fragrant Phalaenopsis...that's unusual.

I think that this may not be too "hybridised" Delonix.

Meanie:

I kinda figured. There's so many hybrids out there now days. I've seen many Phalaenopsis this color for sale here...however, never smelled the flowers, though.

I'll post up a "full frontal" shot of it - the upper petals are smaller than the lateral sepals, which is what leads me to think that it's gene line is much closer to the species. Quite a few of the species Phals are fragrant.

Meanie:

Thanks! I don't think fragrant, when I think of Phals. I think very sweet fragrance when I see Oncidium, Cattleya, and several other genera.

I think that the fragrance is lost in the hybridization process - I was surprised at the fragrance of the species Phals.

Meanie:

My understanding of Phalaenopsis species (which is limited) they have no fragrance.

P.violacae (the closest thing to a blue Phal) and P.luddemania (spelt incorrectly I'm sure) are the two that I remember, although I know that there are quite a few fragrant species Phals. I've been doing a fair bit of research on these as I fancy trying my hand with a species or two....

Meanie:

Thanks for the information! I'm guessing many of Phals. I see are hybrids which don't have a fragrance.

I think that most of the ones we all see are hybridised noids.
This is a link to a photo of the one that I did spell incorrectly........

Thanks!

The Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana is very beautiful!

Heck of a name too!
I'm looking at them as it may be an ideal first species Phal.

Meanie:

The name isn't too bad...I've seen a lot longer. :>)

I think you posted a Johannesteijsmannia altifrons - Joey palm in the past, if I remember correctly. This is one heck of a name! lol!

That was a complete mouthful - I think that I'll type Joey palm next time!!

Meanie:

Yes, it is a mouthful! :>)

I found your pic...it was actually Johannesteijsmanmia magnifica you posted.
