I will admit that this looks really good, even though I'm a vegan.

Most people aren't out bbqing yet Lulu, even in these parts. I don't mind bbqing in the rain though. Just run out throw it on the grill, run back in...check on it here and there. No biggie ;)

Well Laura, for a vegan to be admiring my non-vegan eats it must look pretty good! Have you always been vegan? I have some family members that are vegan. Well, I hope that my pic has not tempted you back to the dark side ;) They make so many different tofu products now I wounder if they have it in a flat form that you could make a vegan roulade from...or how about if you took a block or roll of tofu and cut it like you would a roast, making it flat....hmmmmm.
Anything's possibly!!!

there's a company called Field Roast, I think, that makes incredible vegetarian sausages & 'meats.' I really should order some - if I go to Whole Foods or Harry's, well, first of all it's an hour drive, and secondly I wind up with a whole shopping cart full of expensive goodies, so online is better and cheaper! I've been a vegetarian for over 20 years and vegan probably for 10. Meat doesn't tempt me at all, altho I will admit that BBQ & also cheeseburgers smell pretty good at times.

Lol Tasteyg, my hubby and I BBQ'd the first morning after our wedding in December!! We lit the outside chimneys while there was frost on the ground and stayed outside all day! We once BBQ's in the snow and built a snowman where we hid our beer and white wine!!

Laura-They make so many soy products, I bet you can make a pretty decent cheeseburger, right!?! I hear vegans and vegitarians alike are gaga over grilled portebello mushroom sandwich...they say it's just like meat...don't know if I buy all that...but I'm sure that it's delicious!

Thanks Clarice :)

Sounds like great fun Lulu! Were you just married last Dec? Love the snowman ice chest idea, clever!!! Bet those drinks icy cold & delicious!!!

2008 Tasteyg! If it had been this year we would have been snow/ice bound!!

I'm a terrible mushroom cook, Tastey, so I couldn't tell you. I like mushrooms when somebody else cooks them. It's the cheese that's the problem - it's hard to find a good vegan cheese, although Follow Your Heart is good and Dr. Cow makes a fabulous macadamia nut cheese, but it's very expensive. We found a place online that sells vegan mozzarella sticks so my co-worker Natalie and I are going to order some & have them delivered to the office along with some gelatin-free marshmallows. It might make going to work that day worthwhile instead of depressing, which is what it usually is.

Lulu- Congrats on your 2008 nuptials...I'm a little late, but better late than never :)

Laura- Well I hope your vegan mozzarella shows up to brighten your day!!! Are you going to make pizza? I got laid off last year and am still looking for a job...depressing as work can be...you're lucky to have a job!!!! So chin up ;)

Do you have a grill or barbeque Laura? The portebellos are easy to cook. You can either scrap the gills out w a spoon or leave them in. Slather w olive oil some salt and pepper maybe a little garlic powder or fresh garlic and then grill on med heat till done. I make this really yummy pesto chicken sandwich using the grilled port. mushroom as a topper along with blue cheese crumbles and baby greens dressed w a homemade basalmic vinaigrette served up on a toasted ciabatta roll....oh YUM!!!!!

I know I'm lucky to have a job, but we get real busy - in a miserably bad way - when the weather warms. Lots of people surrendering their pets, lots of litters of puppies and kittens coming in that have little chance of making it out of the shelter alive.
I need to get a little grill. I've had those grilled portobellos and they're delicious, but even with a recipe I can't seem to cook good mushrooms. Or tofu. Or anything else. I really prefer baking. I bake killer cinnamon buns & really good chocolate chip cookies!
