Beautiful one like a windmill.

Alexandramo, this is the first time I've grown this plant. I've been really impressed with the way it's come through a very tough Summer here and I just love the flowers.

Sixpence, it really does stand out in the rather dreary looking garden bed that was devastated by the cyclone and flooding here. This plant deserves a medal!

It certainly does if it went through all that.

Yes, Sixpence. It was growing in a bed that was completely flooded and under water for days and then withstood a river of water flowing through the bed for weeks and stood up to the cyclonic winds unprotected. Not bad for an young Iris plant!

My goodness Bernieh what have you been feeding it quaker oats lol that is fantastic for any plant to take that kind of bashing.

Lol, actually I'd forgotten it was there ... it was a pass-along plant and I had no idea what it was, so no idea how to care for it. Obviously it likes the no-fuss approach!

Seems it likes a bit of rough going through all that and surviving and what a bloom at the end of it.

That is special!

Stunning, i dont have lillies in my garden, as they are harmful to cats and i have 2 cats.

What a shame you can't have lilies in your garden. I had no idea they were harmful to cats! This particular plant even though it's common name uses 'lily' it is an iris. Previously it was thought to belong to the lily family, but that's all changed now.

Absolutely beautiful .

Thanks Mossy. It has turned to seed now and I'm looking forward to seeing its' second blooming later on.

It is definitely a hardy plant for the tropics, Homebird. I plan on getting some more of it now. I wouldn't mind that brilliant orange out in my courtyard.
